Fowlds Cooke Group, run by Sam Cooke, acquires Browns Timber Buildings, a fast-growing timber construction firm based in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

Browns Timber Buildings this week announces its new owners, Fowlds Cooke Group. Fowlds Cooke has acquired a majority controlling stake in the business following on from the turnaround efforts of Winch & Co Group. Winch & Co, a boutique investment house with offices in Leeds, South Yorkshire, Manchester and Newcastle, acquired the company back in October 2021 as part of a turnaround exercise off the back of COVID to help transform the business.

With over 20 years of experience, Browns Timber Buildings specialise in bespoke modular timber structures for both domestic and commercial use. With four generations of building expertise, the UK team now delivers precision-engineered garden rooms, offices, extensions, holiday lodges, annexes, and everything in between – fully insulated and designed for year-round use, having completed hundreds of projects over the years, and intense product development and investment from Winch & Co.

Sam Cooke, Managing Director at Fowlds Cooke, said, “I’m looking forward to taking Browns Timber Buildings forward as it starts its next chapter in B2B. I really appreciate the hard work that Winch & Co have done to provide the spring board to enter the B2B market with their product development, case studies, demonstrable completed projects and a new website, brand and recent financial investment in the business.”

Nathan Winch, Chief Executive at Winch & Co, commented on the deal, “Sam is a demonstrated individual to us, having acquired a majority stake in Blue Bricks Magazine from us back in March 2022, and taking the business to a new level from when we started it during COVID. With the network that he has crafted over subsequent years running that business, we believe he has the ingredients needed to break into the B2B market at Browns Timber Buildings, following on from Winch & Co’s recent work this year in the holiday park and entertainment sectors.”

Debra Hart, Commercial Director at Winch & Co, added, “At Winch & Co, we’re right behind Sam and his vision for Browns Timber Buildings. The business already has strong foundations and a competent management team thanks to the turnaround work we’ve done, and I know Sam will build on that success. Supporting ambitious businesses and setting them up for the future is what we do best, and I’m excited to see where he takes it next under his capable stewardship.”

Winch & Co were represented on the transaction by Ison Harrison Solicitors.
